• What is the difference between M-Sand and river sand? +

  M-Sand (Manufactured Sand) is produced by crushing granite quarry stone to specific gradations, while river sand is naturally deposited. M-Sand is more consistent in grading, free of organic impurities, and readily available without the environmental and legal issues of river sand. VSI (Vertical Shaft Impactor) M-Sand produces cubical particles that offer better workability compared to cone-crusher dust. In Chennai, VSI M-Sand is the industry standard for concrete and plastering.

• Which M-Sand is better — VSI or Water-Washed? +

  VSI M-Sand has more consistent cubical shape and is preferred for concrete work (better interlocking). Water-Washed M-Sand is cleaned to remove fines and dust, making it suitable for plastering where a smoother finish is needed. For general RCC construction, VSI M-Sand is the standard. For internal plastering, water-washed P-Sand (Plaster Sand) is recommended.

• What size jelly aggregate is used for different concrete grades? +

  For M20–M30 structural concrete (columns, beams, slabs): 20mm aggregate is standard. For mass concrete and foundations: 40mm aggregate is commonly used. For M10/M15 lean mix: 20mm or 40mm works. 12mm aggregate (pea gravel) is used in precast elements, thin sections, and pump-grade RMC. 6mm aggregate is used for grouting and flooring screeds.

• How many loads of M-Sand are needed for a 1,000 sq ft house slab? +

  A typical 1,000 sq ft RCC roof slab at 125mm thickness requires approximately 125 cubic feet (3.5 m³) of sand for the concrete mix, plus additional sand for plastering. One load (tractor load) is typically 250–300 cubic feet. For a full ground-floor construction (foundation, columns, slab + plastering), budget 3–5 loads of M-Sand and 2–3 loads of jelly aggregate.

• Do you supply P-Sand separately for plastering? +

  Yes. BuildingNeeds supplies P-Sand (Plaster Sand / water-washed fine sand) specifically graded for plastering applications. P-Sand has controlled fines content that gives smooth finish coats and better adhesion. It is different from coarse M-Sand used in concrete. We supply both VSI M-Sand for structural work and P-Sand for plastering, in separate loads.

• What is the minimum order quantity for aggregate delivery in Chennai? +

  Minimum order is typically one tractor load (approximately 250–300 cubic feet / 6–7 tonnes). For large projects needing lorry loads or multiple tractor loads, we offer volume pricing. Delivery is available within 24–48 hours across Chennai and nearby districts including Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur.
